Camper vacation in Sardinia - Facts & Tips

Sardinia is our personal paradise when we are on the road with VanEssa. Breathtaking coastal roads and secluded bays are just two examples.

If you are traveling on Sardinia's roads, you should allow plenty of time. There are many winding roads - so progress is often rather slow. There are many panoramic points and great views along the way. The climate is essentially Mediterranean, with warm spring and fall, hot summer and mild winter.

If you have a bicycle carrier on the tailgate, a warning sign must be attached in Italy.

Ferry

Always book tickets and special offers in advance! Otherwise you risk high prices and long queues at the port. Cabin seats are recommended for night crossings. When booking, please pay attention to the choice of vehicle! Although a VW or Mercedes bus is considered a vehicle in terms of its dimensions, it is usually classified as a special vehicle by the ferry companies and must therefore be booked as a minibus, camper or van.

Overnight stay

Overnight stays in public parking lots are prohibited and are only tolerated out of season.
In the high season, we recommend that you book campsites in advance. Camping on public sites is prohibited and will be penalized, especially in the high season.

We know the following campsites from personal experience and are therefore happy to recommend them:

  • Camping LÚltima Spiaggia, Bari Sardo (OG)
  • Centro Vacance Isuledda, Cannigione di Arzachena
  • For windsurfers (showers are a bit outdated): Isola Die Gabbiani, Porto Pollo
  • For climbing enthusiasts: Camping Cala Gonone (east coast)
