From Malmö to Stockholm - camping trip with the family

From Malmö to Stockholm

Hey!
My name is Johanna and I traveled through Sweden for three weeks with my husband and our two-year-old son.

We normally travel with our VW bus, but as we wanted to be self-sufficient, we decided to use the Mercedes Sprinter from VanEssa mobilcamping.

Sweden ... a country I only had a vague idea about.
The Swedes ... about whose culture and life I had previously given little thought. But why actually?

Most of the impressions I had already gathered about Sweden came from movies and stories by Astrid Lindgren.

Why Sweden? I think it was precisely this appeal. The attraction of traveling to a country I didn't know much about and had hardly any ideas about.

And then it all started ...
Our travel rod

We set off on Monday morning without a single booking and made our way to Malmö with a stopover in Copenhagen.

From there, the first two weeks of the journey took us to Trelleborg, Ystad, Kalmar, Oland, Vimmerby, Eksjö and Gränna as far as Stockholm.

After two days in beautiful Stockholm, we returned to Trelleborg via Örebro, Mariestad, Mollösund, Gothenburg, Halmstad and Lund, from where we took the ferry back to Travemünde in Germany.

Our conclusion

What can I say? After the first few days of acclimatizing, I was absolutely in love with it. Above all, I was totally captivated by the „simplicity“ and unpretentiousness of this country. These small, red houses and the vast nature. The Swedes with their love of history and nostalgia.

An unexpected highlight was the visit to the Wasa Museum. If you are in Stockholm, you should not miss the sight of this gigantic ship.

If you feel nostalgic about the stories and characters of Astrid Lindgren, you should definitely visit the small town of Vimmerby and the author's museum. In this area you can also visit the farms of the children from Bullerbü and Michel's Katthult farm.

The latter was an absolute „jam jar moment“ for me personally. Even though the farm is privately owned, you can look around the grounds in front of it and feel like you're part of history. Pure Sweden.

This trip was super varied. The fact that the country offers so many opportunities for self-sufficient camping made us feel free and independent. If you have plenty of time, you can just let yourself drift. Our program was pretty tight for the three weeks and I definitely want to travel to Sweden again in a few years and see more of the country's interior.

If you've got the travel bug, here's the next travel blog - a Sprinter trip through beautiful France - from Paris to the Nomandie.

All the best Johanna
